As an administrator you might require to upgrade or install computers with the latest Windows operating system, or uninstall unsupported versions of the Windows operating systems, and perform tasks such as creating disk image, backup and restore image.
A WinPE image is used to prepare a computer for all the tasks that you want to run in the pre-boot environment. Ghost solution lets you install and configure multiple WinPE environments. Currently you can install the following versions of WinPE:

Note:
WinPE 10 is not supported from the Ghost Standard Tools 3.1 up to and including 3.1 MP1.
WinPE 10 is supported in Ghost Standard Tools 3.1 MP2.

Prerequisite for installing multiple WinPE images
In Ghost Solution Suite, to create WinPE images, you must first install the AIK or the ADK folders on different computers.
TIP: It is not recommended to install more than one WAIK folder on a computer.
The Deployment Tools and Windows Pre-installation Environment (Windows PE) are the components that are required in an ADK installation.

Installing Pre-boot operating system files
Download the AIK or the ADK set-up for the WinPE versions on different computers.
Launch the Boot Disk Creator.
From the Tools menu, select Install Pre-boot Operating System Files...
In the Install Pre-boot Operating System Files… wizard, select the pre-boot operating system that you want to install.
Specify the location of the Pre-installed AIK or the Pre-installed ADK set up and click Next.
Click Next.
After the installation is complete, the wizard displays the status of the WinPE version that is installed and can be used in the Boot Disk Creator.
Click Finish.
Note: | After upgrading to Ghost Solution Suite 3.1, reinstall WAIK for WinPE 4.0 as the Boot Disk Creator does not retain the status of the WinPE 4.0 PXE configuration. |
Creating a WinPE configuration

Launch the Boot Disk Creator.
From the File menu, select Create New Configuration….
In the Create Configuration Wizard, enter the name and the description for the configuration.
Select the WinPE version for which you want to create an image and click Next.
Select the hardware drivers that you want to add to the configuration and click Next. By default, the Auto-detect all device drivers is selected.
Set the TCP/IP settings that should be used to communicate with the server and click Next.
Set the Port number and the IP address of the server using which the client computer should communicate with the Ghost Solution Suite Server. Set the location of the automation agent to be used with the configuration and click Next.
Select the workgroup/Domain that the client computer should connect to.
Enter the account credentials to be used to connect to the file server and click Next.
Map the drive where you want to store the images. By default it is mapped to M: and click Next.
Select the optional components that you want to add to the WinPE configuration and click Next.
Click Finish on the Configuration summary page.
